BREAKING NEWS TIM LINCECUM IS A JEDI

Though I don’t agree with that quote from above, I have without a doubt, grown fond of Bushido Sixteen. The manga centers around two girls — Isoyama, an accomplished kendoka hitting ippons since she was three and Nishiogi, a weaker kendoka whose only ippon was a men strike to Isoyama. Trying to figure out how this could ever eventranspire (see also: Kendoka With A Bruised Ego™), Isoyama moves to Nishiogi’s school and tries to confront her about her mysterious men strike (see also: Let’s Settle This With A Shiai That Doesn’t Involve The Two Of Us Wearing Armour™).
I’ve only been a few chapters in and have only experienced life in the dojo for almost a year now, I’m quite relieved to say that I have never met a kendoka in our dojo who intentionally exploits the opponent or an opening to win (well, yet).
Winning a shiai isn’t bad. Striking that perfect ippon isn’t bad. But kendo isn’t necessarily all about that. As a beginner, it’s still a hard concept for me to grasp. As a person who’s used to observing sports where it is a necessity to win, it’s difficult to understand. But I’m getting there. As I’ve heard others say, I have a whole life to improve. To understand and accomplish what the true nature of kendo is and a lifetime to suffer losses and learn from it.
